Be An AdvocateTake Action!
Advocacy, by definition, means to support, to recommend; it is the act of pleading for a specific interest. Advocacy is a responsibility of Mental Health America and we encourage all parties with an interest in the mental health of our community to become an advocate for change that directly affects those with mental illness.
Through nearly a century of advocacy at the national, state and local levels, Mental Health America and its affiliates have sought to protect the rights of individuals with mental illness. MHA is also seeking access to equitable, accessible and culturally competent services and new funding for added services in our community.
Through advocacy we will continue to lead the mental health movement by informing our legislators of issues that directly affect the people of our community.
We could use your help in our advocacy efforts. By sending an email to your legislators you are making your voice heard and your legislators will take more of an interest in these discussions knowing there is support within their jurisdiction that is encouraging their vote to represent your views.
We have heard repeatedly that it doesn’t take a lot of email to get the attention of your elected legislators. They want to do what is best for our community, but without your input these topics may not get the attention they deserve.
Know that you can make a difference today. So many people can benefit by your time spent supporting our advocacy network. You could change a life by making a change in just one elected officials vote.
